We have made great strides to establish our presence on the national and international level while maintaining our commitment to our immediate Chicago community. Here are just a few highlights from our historic 20th Anniversary Year:

• The landmark exhibition African Presence in México traveled to Monterrey and Veracruz, Mexico and Albuquerque, New Mexico on its 11-city tour through 2010

• Our exhibition Women Artists of Modern Mexico: Frida’s Contemporaries wasinvited to open at the Diego Rivera Mural Museum in Mexico City in July 2008

• The Sor Juana Performing Arts Festival premiered in Chicago and Houston with plans to expand to San Antonio and Austin in 2008

• The Chicago Dia del Niño Family Festival and Dia de los Muertos Blood Drive raised awareness of health and fitness in our local community

• More than 60,000 Chicago area K-12 students received guided exhibition tours, classroom instruction, and benefited from traveling exhibitions like Mexican Chicago

• After-school programs like Yollocalli Arts Reach and our award-winning youth radio station, Radio Arte (90.5 fm) continued to engage teens from the local community

• Our Permanent Collection grew to 6,000 pieces including paintings such as Carlos Almaraz’ Primitive People and Miguel Cabrera’s colonial, Virgen de Guadalupe

• More than 1,000 public school teachers in Chicago and across the nation received professional development training and bilingual curricula from our Education Department

• More than 160,000 people visited our exciting exhibitions: Dia de los Muertos, Mexicanidad, Arte Textil Maya, and Nahui Olin: A Women Beyond Time

• The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. / Cesar Chavez Luncheon and Afro-Mexican Studies Symposium continued creating dialogue among key ethnic groups.

We have much more to accomplish, but we cannot continue to expand our programs, continue our policy of free admission, and meet the needs of our country’s growing demand for Mexican cultural resources, without your support. Please take a moment
