General Information

GENERAL INFORMATION

Unpaid internships for college students, graduate students, and recent graduates are available throughout the year on a full- or part-time basis. There are a few, highly selective paid internship opportunities available at the National Museum of Mexican Art.

Through the Museum’s unpaid internship program, individuals gain practical museum experience and learn professional workplace and creative organizational skills. The intent of the internship program is to match applicants with specific departments throughout the Museum. Selections are made based on the applicant's academic and extracurricular experiences, expressed interest in the specific department, and as needed, letters of recommendation. The number of available positions at a given moment varies according to departmental needs.

In addition to receiving on-the-job training through their departmental placement, interns have the opportunity to interact with each other and members of the Museum community through ongoing museum programs and activities.

The National Museum of Mexican Art also welcomes inquiries from volunteers who do not require a more formal internship experience.

Placement
The Museum's need for interns and volunteers fluctuates throughout the year depending on the specific projects and ongoing activities of each department. Each Museum department handles their own recruitment and selection of interns and volunteers.

Eligibility
Internships are available to matriculated college and master’s degree students, and recent graduates (of either undergraduate or graduate programs). To be considered a recent graduate, applicants must have graduated no more than one year prior to the application submission.

Volunteer opportunities are available to all age groups.

Application Process
If you are interested in a particular department, please send your materials to the departmental contacts below. Be sure to list all coursework you have completed that is relevant to your departmental choices. We also require that you submit a statement of interest describing your reasons for wanting to assist at the National Museum of Mexican Art and how your credentials support you as a candidate for each department. Strong applications will detail how the applicants' past experiences and education support their departmental choices. Please submit a resume describing your work experience and previous internships, including all summer and academic-year paid and volunteer positions.

Please be sure to include precise dates for the proposed internship and number of hours per week that you are available; note that internships may require a minimum time commitment per week for at least ten weeks. Academic credit may be arranged for interns at their schools' discretion.

Interview
Interviews for internship positions are conducted at the department's discretion. An interview may not be required.

Notification
Candidates for internships are notified of a final decision within ninety days of receiving all required materials (not including June, July, or August).

Due to the high volume of applicants, please be patient as we respond to requests for information and submissions. Regrettably, we cannot respond to requests for informational interviews.
