Celebrating the diverse artistic beauty found within Mexican culture, the Del Corazón Mexican Performing Arts Festival continues to be a leading forum for presenting Mexican live arts programs in the United States. Del Corazón features artists from Mexico, the U.S. and Chicago representing the many faces of Mexican culture.
The programming for Del Corazón crosses borders, artistic disciplines, and conventions. The Del Corazón Festival includes traditional Mexican folkloric musicians such as Los Folkloristas as well as the local group Sones de México. In theatre, Del Corazón has presented cutting edge performance artists Luis Alfaro, Maria Elena Gaitán and Monica Palacios addressing key social issues. In film, past Del Corazón events include the experimental films of Luis Buñuel, while in literature the Festival has featured Carlos Fuentes and Ana Castillo, Mexican writers from either side of the border. Beginning in 1994, the Del Corazón Festival has been presenting performing arts events that demonstrate the Mexican culture’s unique beauty and diversity while challenging audiences to ponder the place of Mexico and Mexicans within the U.S.
