Kraft Family Sundays

Come and participate with your family on this free, year-round, hands-on program. Create art while spending time with your children. Tours and activities are related to themes of our current exhibitions. Reservations are required.



Chicago Día Del Nino Family Festival

The Chicago Día del Niño Family Festival is the largest children's celebration dedicated to promoting healthy living and observing Mexico's national holiday (April 30) that celebrates all children. This annual festival takes places each spring during the month of April. Children and families who attend this free event enjoy live performances, interactive games, fitness activities, cooking demonstrations, health screenings, art activities, clowns, raffles, gifts, and more.



Día del Niño Family Health Walk

Each year, the Chicago Día del Niño family festival is kicked off with a fun, family health walk to the UIC Pavilion, the new home of the festival since 2004. Participants walk a 2-mile course and receive many free gifts.



Bilingual Summer Camp

During the month of July, children ages 7 to11 have an opportunity to spend their summer learning about the diversity in the arts. This past year's Summer Camp schedule included Spanish, yoga, traditional games, theatre, art history and photography. Fees are $250 per child.



Children's Art Classes

Throughout the year, the Museum's education department offers Saturday morning or after-school art classes for beginners or children with advanced art skills. Class themes may vary by exhibition, medium or technique.



Gallery Guides

The Museum's Education Department often develops interactive gallery guides that help children and their families navigate the exhibitions and gain a better understanding of its themes and works of art. Gallery guides are available for selected exhibitions only.



Arts Outreach

As part of our mission to exemplify the beauty and richness of Mexican culture, the Museum participates in various annual festivals, fairs, celebrations, community or museum events by offering cultural hands-on activities for the public.

Arte Ambulante

The National Museum of Mexican Art offers a variety of hands-on art activities and lectures for students, teachers, and groups of all ages. These traveling workshops are designed to enhance the museum going experience and expose participants to a wide selection of Mexican art making techniques. The fee for each workshop includes all materials for the hands-on art activity and a presentation of historical background on the origin and significance of each activity. AARTEE

The Academics and Art Together for Effective Education (AARTEE) program is an after school collaboration of the Mexican Fine Arts Center Museum, the Chicago Public School's Office of Language and Cultural Education and CPS Bilingual Parent Resource Center. The weekly after-school program is implemented in three schools: Lazaro Cárdenas School, Cooper Dual Language Academy and Perez Elementary, all located in the Pilsen/ Little Village neighborhoods. The goal of AARTEE is to enhance art, literacy and cultural education through an interdisciplinary Arts curriculum.

Yollocalli Community Night

La Peña

In an effort to bring families and communities together, Yollocalli Arts reach hosts public events every last Friday of the month. Past events include community discussions and family movie nights. Park Voyagers

This great collaboration between the 10 Museums in the Parks and the Chicago Park District provides families with multidisciplinary instruction in art, science, and history. Classes are offered at parks in the Chicago area, and families are encouraged to make frequent and creative use of Chicago's museums.

Armonía Chicago Symphony Orchestra

A partnership between the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and the MFACM, Armonía presents concerts, after-school children's classes or other special musical events throughout the year. These quality programs are available for the public at minimal or no cost.



Chicago Humanities Festival

Since 2004, the National Museum of Mexican Arts is a proud partner of the Chicago Children's Humanities Festival . Together, we present bilingual performances, workshops and special events. As part of a weekend full of programming, our Museum also hosts the Chicago Park District's culminating event for their Words at Play poetry program.
