MALOS HÁBITOS (BAD HABITS)
Dir: Simón Bross

A family living in Mexico City has a diverse set of eating disorders- their faith,
love and vanity are all put to the test at the dining room table. The tin Elena
(Elena de Haro), ashamed of her daughter Linda's weight, will do anything to
make Linda (Elisa Vicedo), look like a princess at her first communion. Elena's
husband, Gustavo (Marco Antonio Trevino), tired of his wife's gaunt figure, finds
joy in the arms of a buxom student fascinated with good food. The visually
remarkable film from Simon Bross concerns itself with the ways in which
eating disorders make daily life tough to swallow and reality hard to digest.

dealer of used car parts. Both dream of a better life and are saving to emigrate
to Chicago. When he realizes exactly how much it will cost to pay the
"Coyote" to help them cross the border, Jaime introduces his nephew to the
world of stolen car parts.

LUZ SILENCIOSA (SILENT LIGHT)
Dir: Carlos Reygadas
Friday October 12th

Visually arresting and hypnotic, Silent Light tells the story of adultery and
spiritual crisis unfolding amidst an isolated modern-day Plautdietsch-speaking
(a dialect between Dutch and German) Mennonite community on the outskirts
of Chihuahua. Johan (Cornelio Wall Fehr), a farmer and devout head of a
large family, falls in love with another woman, Marianne (Maria Pankratz),
against the laws of God and his people. His faithful and devoted wife Ester
(Miriam Toews) is aware of the affair from the beginning but does little to
interfere.
